Paradiso 5.73–75

Beatrice, warning Christians about their vows

Siate, Cristiani, a muovervi più gravi:

non siate come penna ad ogne vento,

e non crediate ch’ogne acqua vi lavi.

Be slower to move, Christians:

do not be like a feather in every wind,

and do not believe that every water washes you.
