Inferno 1.1–3
Dante, lost in the dark wood
Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita
mi ritrovai per una selva oscura,
ché la diritta via era smarrita.
Midway along the journey of our life
I found myself within a dark wood,
for the straight way had been lost.
